Cover Me, I’m Going In!

So a while back, Dave did a post about their favourite song covers…
Here’s my take on that:

Bat for Lashes - All I Need, Originally by Radiohead
Matt Pond P.A. - Champagne Supernova, Originally by Oasis
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights, Originally by Iron and Wine
Sarah Blasko - Hey Ya, Originally by Outkast
Serena Ryder & The Beauties - The Funeral, Originally by Band of Horses
Two Door Cinema Club - The Cave, Originally by Mumford and Sons
The Whitest Boy Alive - 7 Minutes, Originally by Circlesquare
The XX - You’ve Got the Love, Originally by Florence and the Machine

As sacrilegious as this may be, I dare say that I like some of the covers better than the original song!  On that note, I’ll leave you with thoughts of lynching me for blaspheming against your favourite artists.

Your Greatest Secret Weapon

Pure word of mouth is THE greatest weapon any artist, band, stunt driver, or airline mechanic can foster; it can’t be bought. It’s the Holy Grail for marketers and advertisers because it hold unparalleled buying power! As words have the power to build up a person or tear them down, so words have the ability to build an artists popularity.

Next time your standing in a field with your two best friends, holding instruments with butterflies in your stomach ready to throw your money down and film your very first high-quality music video, ask yourself what will people say when they see it?
With boxes of CDs being delivered to your home in three weeks time, is word organically spreading? Is word of mouth regarding your music buzzing online and offline that your sound IS the most awesome, ear tingling music on the planet?!

As an artists word of mouth is your greatest secret weapon; don’t forget the power words have!
